After School Activities

OIS encourages students to participate in our After School Activities (ASA) Program. Whether your child is in elementary school or middle school, the ASA Program offers a wide variety of activities to help all students explore their interests. We have both OIS faculty and staff as well as other members from the local community to operate our ASA Program in order to give students more choices and opportunities to pursue lessons beyond our formal curriculum.

The ASA Program enriches the students’ learning experience in many ways! Here are some of the benefits and reasons to participate in the ASA Program.

The ASA Program gives students the opportunity to

  • explore different interests
  • build new skills
  • develop friendships
  • contribute to society
  • acquire leadership skills
  • have fun without leaving campus
Below is a list of regularly scheduled After School Activities:

Little First Aider

First aid skills provide children with the vital knowledge necessary for dealing with any medical emergencies that they may be faced with. It is a valuable and potentially life-saving skill that children are able to grasp from a very young age. Learning first aid will boost students’ confidence so they feel fully prepared if their friends or family need immediate medical assistance. Students will be exposed to First Aid skills by role playing and hands-on experience during the program. By the end of the quarter, parents will feel more confident leaving their child since they will be equipped with skills to help in the case of an accident. All students will be awarded with a Certificate of Achievement at the end of the quarter.

Hip Hop Dance

Students will learn basic hip-hop dance moves including groove and bounce alongside hip-hop music. Students will learn 2 to 3 different hip-hop dance routines by the end of the quarter. Hip-hop dance promotes full body workouts that include health benefits, such as increasing student’s stamina, body coordination, and strength development. Hip-hop dance also builds student self-confidence by performing routines in front of a crowd.

RoboKID

The Robo KIDS series is thoughtfully created to help younger children understand STEM by using robot technology. Each kit is based on useful assembly blocks that contain special circuits such as CPUs, contact sensors, and IR sensor blocks. Students program robots with a card reader system called ‘Funny Cards’. RoboKID is specifically developed to foster creativity and activate the brain by assembling robots.

RoboKIT

The RoboKIT series is thoughtfully created to develop STEM skills and knowledge through robotics and coding. Each kit contains the CPU, DC motors, sensors and more to enable students to build their own robots with nuts and bolts. Students program the robot with Rogic Program, which is developed in a GUI Environment allowing easy understanding and enjoyment. The Rogic Program is available on PC as well as Smartphones and Tablets in Android and iOS. In this course, students will learn how to assemble basic robots as well as simple electronic and structural principles.

Scratch Programming Game Development

Students will program their own interactive stories, games, and animations and share their creations with others in the online community. Game Development helps students learn to think creatively, reason systematically, and work collaboratively which are essential skills for life in the 21st century.

All in One Art

This “All in One” art program includes components of both visual and S.T.E.M. art. Students will learn how to transform 2D visuals to real 3D crafty projects using Quick Draw, a foundational teaching method that propels students’ confidence to a new level. Students will also approach the subjects of science, technology, engineering and mathematics through an artistic avenue. This portion of the program is a 100% hands-on project activity for students by conducting simple science and art experiments.

Do you want to learn how to flip in a safe way? In this class new and returning students will learn both basic and advanced gymnastic skills including handstands, cartwheels, and rolling techniques in a safe and fun environment. The training sessions will also improve students’ overall strength, fitness, flexibility, body awareness, and more.
